Maskbook

Maskbook is an international, participatory and artistic project by the association Art of Change 21.

Launched in 2015 on the occasion of COP21, Maskbook aims to raise public awareness on air pollution and climate change. With Maskbook, the anti-pollution mask is a symbol of pollution, a means of action and a canvas for creation. The anxiety-provoking image of the anti-pollution mask is transformed into an expression of optimism and commitment to the planet.

As part of education and community outreach, students of Exhibition Design class Art 342 (Art Department, Fall 2019) curate this section of Wen Fang's Ex/Ordinary exhibition as an extension of her Maskbook, a global participatory public art project addressing climate changes. Masks exhibited here were selected from masks created by participants who attended the Maskbook Workshop on Thursday, December 5th, 2019. Led by the artist Wen Fang, the workshop was coordinated by professor Edie Pistolesi from the Art Education area of the Department of Art at CSUN. The workshop took place in her Children's Art class Art 380 with her students and the art education club as the main participants.
